Here are some of the species of fish that you can expect to catch while aboard Dawn Patrol. While some of the fish are more common year round then others this chart will help you determine when and where you want to fish.

Amberjack Most commonly found in 60-240 ft of water associating themselves with reefs or debris. commonly caught up to 40 pounds. Common year round. Almaco Jack Ffound in open waters. Usually less than 20lbs. More abundent in the warmer months of the year. Triggerfish Found on ocean floor, reefs, and ledges. Usually less than 15lbs. Found year round. Mahi Mahi (dophin) Found in open water, commonly caught at 30lbs or more. Found in the warmer month of the year between May and November. King Mackerel Found nearshore and offshore can be caught running from shallows to deeper water. Commonly caught up to 20 lbs or more and can be found in the warmer months of the year May through October. Sailfish Found only offshore in 100 ft or deeper. caught mostly between 4 to 7 feet long and is found only in the warm months of the year May through October. Spanish Mackerel Found inshore, nearshore, and offshore especially over grassbeds and reefs. Average catch is less than 2 lbs and is mostly absent in the winter months. Wahoo Found in offshore bluewater commonly caught up to 180 lbs. Mostly found in the warmer months May through October. Lane Snapper Found offshore near reefs and debris. Usually caught less than 1 lb. Expect to catch year round. Black Snapper Found offshore in about 60 feet of water, commonly found near rocky bottoms and reefs. commonly caught around 20 lbs. Found mainly in the winter months November to March. Red Snapper Found mainy in deeper waters and commonly caught up to 20 lbs however can be found 35 lbs or more. Caught mostly in the warmer months of the year April to November. Grouper Found Offshore in waters over 60 feet deep. Commonly caught up to 40 lbs, may attain waits over 100 lbs so hold on. Common to catch year round. Atlantic Sharpnose Found offshore and inshore, even found in surf. Commonly caught up to 4 feet long and are found year round. Hammerhead Not a common catch but can be found inshore and offshore ranging from 4 feet to 15 feet. Can be found year round but more prominent in the warmer months. |
Speckled Trout Found inshore and nearshore over grasbeds, mostly caught around 4 lbs but not uncommon to be caught at greater weight. Most bountiful in the colder months of the year but can be seen year round. Black Drum Found inshore on grass beds and oyster bars, common to be caught up to 30 lbs. Found year round. Reddrum (Redfish) Commonly found inshore at about 8 lbs. Larger species of fish travel to nearshore where they can way 30 lbs or more. Found year round in shallows and nearshore. Sheepshead Found inshore near oyster beds, mile markers, and debris. Commonly caught near 1 to 2 lbs but can reach up and above 8 lbs. This species is found year round. Bluefish Found inshore and mainly around 3 to 4 lbs. Expect to catch them year round but most plentiful in the winter months Ladyfish Found in shallow waters of the bay andcan be caught year round. On average caught between 2 to 4 lbs. Flounder Found inshore on mud bottoms and sometimes on nearshore reefs. Generally caught in and around the 2 lb region. Found year round but more active around October to April Cobia Found both inshore and nearshore around debris or any sort of cover. Commonly caught around 30 lbs and is found mmost active in the cooler months such as March, April, October, and November. Tarpon Commonly found inshore and nearshore. This giant can excede 200 lbs easily and can be found year round on the flats or right off the beach. Sandbar Shark Found nearshoreand this fish typically found at depths ranging from 60 to 200 feet. Common to 6 feet. Found all year long. Bonnet Shark Mainly an inshore species found in bays and estuaries. Commonly caught 3 to 4 feet but can grow up to 6 feet. Can be found all year long. |
